# CloneMotion Guide: Create Better Exercise Clips

CloneMotion turns a trainer photo into a short exercise demonstration clip. Use this guide to get clear, consistent results.

## The most important rule

Your photo anchors the trainer’s appearance and starting pose. The generated motion works best when the photo already matches the exercise.

Pose, equipment, framing, background, and lighting all affect the result. A motion note cannot fully correct a mismatched starting pose.

## Quick start

1. Upload a trainer photo or choose a saved photo.
2. Select the exercise.
3. Optionally add one short **Motion note**.
4. Generate and review the clip.
5. If needed, improve the photo or simplify the motion note before trying again.

## Match the photo to the exercise

You can reuse the same trainer, outfit, and lighting, but use a suitable starting pose for each exercise category.

| Exercise category | Recommended photo |
|---|---|
| Standing exercises | Standing ready, with any required equipment in hand |
| Floor exercises | Already on the mat in the correct starting position |
| Seated exercises | Already seated with the correct posture and grip |
| Cardio in place | Neutral standing pose, full body visible, with room to move |

A standing photo will often produce an awkward transition for floor or seated exercises.

## Photo requirements

| Requirement | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Pose | Show the exercise’s starting position |
| Framing | Full body, centered, with space around the edges |
| Orientation | Landscape, ideally 16:9 |
| Resolution | At least 1280×720; 1920×1080 or higher recommended |
| Format | JPG, PNG, or WebP |
| File size | Up to 20MB |
| Lighting | Bright and even |
| Background | Simple, with no mirrors or other people |
| Clothing | Fitted athletic clothing with simple patterns |
| Equipment | Visible and held correctly when required |
| Camera angle | Eye level or slightly above |

### Floor exercises

For planks, bridges, dead bugs, and similar movements, photograph the trainer already in the correct floor position. Avoid asking the clip to transition from standing to the floor.

## Get the best likeness

The clip is generated to keep the same person as in your photo throughout — same face, hair, skin tone, build, and clothing. How closely it matches depends mostly on the photo:

- Make the **face clearly visible**: front-facing or slightly angled, well lit, in focus.
- Avoid sunglasses, hats, hoods, heavy shadows, and motion blur — the generator can only preserve what it can see.
- Use a **high-resolution, recent** photo; 1920×1080 or higher noticeably improves likeness.
- Fitted clothing with simple patterns reproduces more faithfully than loose or busy outfits.
- Reuse the **same photo** across clips when you want a consistent trainer through a whole program.

If the trainer still drifts away from your photo during the clip, regenerate — and if it repeats, switch to a cleaner, closer, better-lit photo rather than adding more motion notes.

## Motion notes

Motion notes are optional. Add one only when the exercise needs clarification.

Use this formula:

**Action + direction + tempo**

- `CRITICAL:` for a required detail
- `IMPORTANT:` for a strong preference

Useful details include side, direction, tempo, equipment, and whether the movement should start immediately.

Avoid camera instructions, music requests, background changes, duration requests, or multiple exercises in one note.

### Examples

**Front lunge**

```text
CRITICAL: Step forward. Start immediately.
IMPORTANT: Brisk, controlled tempo.
```

**Jog in place**

```text
CRITICAL: Stay in one spot. No forward travel.
IMPORTANT: Brisk tempo. Natural arm swing.
```

**Single-side exercise**

```text
CRITICAL: Right arm only.
IMPORTANT: Slow and controlled.
```

**Opposite arm and leg (bird dog, dead bug)**

```text
CRITICAL: Opposite arm and leg move together. Never the same side.
IMPORTANT: Slow and controlled.
```

**Full-depth repetitions**

```text
CRITICAL: Full range of motion on every rep.
IMPORTANT: 2 seconds down, brief pause, press up fully.
```

## What to expect

- Clips are short, landscape, and silent.
- Generation often takes about a minute.
- You can leave the page and check **History** later.
- Results can vary between generations. The generator is instructed to keep the trainer’s appearance consistent, demonstrate full range of motion, and pair opposite limbs correctly on alternating movements — but generated video is not deterministic, and regenerating is a normal part of the workflow.
- A cleaner photo and a well-matched starting pose usually improve quality more than a long motion note.
- A generation credit is used only when a playable clip is delivered. Technical failures do not use a credit.
- Downloading a delivered clip does not use another generation credit.

## Common problems

| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Wrong exercise | Confirm the selected exercise and add one short `CRITICAL:` cue |
| Trainer doesn’t look like the photo | Use a clearer, well-lit, front-facing photo with the face fully visible, then regenerate (see **Get the best likeness**) |
| Awkward standing-to-floor movement | Use a photo already in the correct floor pose |
| Slow or hesitant start | Use a neutral ready pose and add “Start immediately” |
| Tempo is wrong | Add one explicit tempo instruction |
| Jog moves forward | Add “Stay in one spot. No forward travel.” |
| Lunge direction is wrong | Specify front, reverse, or lateral lunge |
| Same-side arm and leg move together (bird dog, dead bug) | Add `CRITICAL: Opposite arm and leg move together. Never the same side.` and regenerate |
| Repetitions look shallow or cut short | Add `CRITICAL: Full range of motion on every rep.` with a tempo cue |
| Clip looks synthetic | Use cleaner lighting, fitted clothing, and a simpler background |
| Body is cropped | Keep the full body visible with space around the edges |
| Photo is rejected | Remove mirrors, logos, or other people and try a clearer image |

## Before generating

### Photo

- [ ] Starting pose matches the exercise
- [ ] Floor exercises begin on the floor
- [ ] Full body is visible and centered
- [ ] Background is simple and lighting is even
- [ ] Required equipment is visible and held correctly
- [ ] File is JPG, PNG, or WebP, at least 1280×720, and no larger than 20MB

### Exercise

- [ ] The correct exercise is selected
- [ ] Any ambiguous movement has one short Motion note
- [ ] The generated clip is reviewed before saving

## If generation fails

| Message or issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| Image is too small or unreadable | Upload a landscape JPG, PNG, or WebP at least 1280×720 |
| Photo or motion note is not accepted | Try a clearer photo and simpler wording |
| Generation is still processing | Check History after a few minutes |
| Service is busy | Try again later |
| Clip could not be delivered | Open the job from History and follow the available retry option |
| Something went wrong | Retry once; if it fails again, contact support with the exercise name and approximate time |
